Every week I host Love Soul \u2013<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

\u2026a radio show I launched four years ago.<\/p>

The show is an enormous labour of love that I share with the world\u2019s greatest producer, Ohio born and bred, Joe Johnson.<\/p>

Our playlist? A cornucopia of vintage grooves from soul titans including Luther, Prince, Stevie, Chaka, Maxwell, Earth, Wind and Fire.<\/p>

It\u2019s not that the new stuff doesn\u2019t thrill. There\u2019s just not much of it. But then I heard, Won\u2019t You Decide <\/em>\u2013 a full-fat funk track by Melbourne band, Mondo Freaks. <\/em>So, I surrendered to the algorithm and up came, JusteFunk, <\/em>all honey-soaked vocals, rhythm and blues. Who <\/em>was this slice of soulful perfection?! <\/p>

Hm. All credits belonged to someone, or thing, called ia <\/em>\u2013  \u2018discovered\u2019 in a hot hardrive somewhere stuffed with (increasingly stale) chips. <\/p>

And the online chatter fires up, <\/p>

\u201cIf you like it, what\u2019s the difference?\u201d<\/em>
\u201cThis is the future. Music has been revived.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

And this abomination\u2026 <\/p>

\u201cIt’s just as creative as practicing the guitar for thousands of hours and you get results a lot faster.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Remember Milli Vanilli? This dreadlocked pop duo dominated in the late 80s with their moves, tunes and bike shorts. But when their fake vocals were revealed, out came the pitchforks.<\/p>

But I guess gorging on bogus artists in 2025 is cool. <\/p>

Well, I\u2019d listen to lip synching humans in spandex over derivative, lazy, pre-programmed slop masquerading as soul \u2013 any day. <\/p>

In the wise words of one Prince Rogers Nelson, \u201cI like my funk concentrated\u201d<\/em>\u2026 not computer generated. <\/p>
